Convention center: Served as counsel for a city constructing a new convention center and public underground parking deck. The representation involved preparation of contracts, review of insurance programs, review of change orders, and preparation of contract amendments.

Parking deck: Prepared contracts for a public/private partnership for a mixed-use office and parking deck facility for a county government.

Public park: Drafted contract documents on behalf of owner for the design and construction of a downtown park, and coordinated the participation and financing between the public and private park owners. Coordinated and developed contracts for close-out and maintenance of park. Developed and drafted owner-construction manager agreement; owner-owner’s representative agreements; and owner-design professional agreements.

Embassy: Drafted design and construction contracts for use in the renovation of an historic structure in Washington, D.C., for the owner (a foreign country) and advised the owner during all phases.

Detention center contracts: Drafted project management and design contracts for county – $12 million jail. The project involved preparation of cost models and design requirements not to exceed fixed limits.

Sports facility contracts: Drafted design and construction contracts for a public owner – $48 million coliseum complex. The project involved fixed budgets, tight schedules, extensive cost estimating, renovation and new construction.

University mixed-use project: Assisted the Agent-CM for a major university mixed-use project. Services included negotiations with the university over the project delivery method, contract reviews, advice on change orders, and close out of the project.

Urban redevelopment: Represented general contractor in contract negotiation involving renovation of downtown tobacco factory into state-of-the-art governmental center.

Baseball stadium demolition: Negotiated demolition contracts for demolition contractor for the implosion of two baseball stadiums, including negotiation of insurance policies, protective responsibilities to surrounding properties, and contractual indemnification and contribution obligations.

World Trade Center demolition: Negotiated scope of work responsibilities and demolition protocol for principal demolition consultant to City of New York, Dept of Design and Construction (agency in charge of excavation and removal/remediation of the 9.11.01 World Trade Center site), and participated in regular meetings during the 7-month removal of debris known as “The Pile” at the World Trade Center site in lower Manhattan; drafted insurance and indemnification agreements regarding allocation of responsibilities for demolition and removal activities.

University buildings/parking: Represented general contractor in contract negotiation involving construction of various university buildings and parking facilities.

Medical facilities: Represented general contractor in contract negotiation involving construction and renovation of major medical facilities.

HVAC: Drafted and coordinated contracts on behalf of owner for renovation of heating plant and steam tunnel HVAC projects for five-star hotel campus.

Golf course: Drafted all design and construction agreements on behalf of owner for the construction of an international golf course, clubhouse and amenities for award-winning private northern Virginia golf club.

Office complex and research and testing center: Drafted design and construction management at-risk contracts for a private owner – $24 million in new construction.

Historic renovation: Drafting design, professional construction management and construction contracts for use in the renovation of an historic structure in Washington, D.C., for the owner (a private association), and advising the owner during all phases.

Corporate headquarters: Represented general contractor in contract negotiation involving construction of corporate headquarters for national retailer.

Remodeling and upfit of tenant space: Drafting design, construction management and construction contracts for use by a national tenant in multiple U.S. locations.

Commercial/residential developer: Drafted development, design, and construction contracts for multi-state developer of residential (single and multi-family) and commercial projects.

Regional shopping mall contracts: Drafted project management, design and construction contracts for a private owner – $45 million in new construction and renovation of a regional shopping mall. The project involved coordinating the terms of 23 multiple management, design and construction contracts, and advising the owner during all phases of the project.

High-rise condominiums: Coordinated contract and change order negotiation and project close-out on behalf of general contractor for $200 Million of Florida high-rise condominium, apartment and mixed use building projects.

High-rise condominiums: Negotiated the contract between a developer and a general contractor for the renovation and conversion of a high-rise office building into a high-rise residential condominium project.

Landfills: Drafted form design and construction contracts for national waste management corporation for its acquisition, construction and operation of landfills and transfer facilities.

Processing facility contract: Drafted design/build contract documents for a sludge processing facility in New York. The project involved excavation, installation of structural concrete and hookup of technical electronic equipment.

Environmental remediation contracts: Drafted contracts for all remediation phases of a Superfund site, on behalf of Potentially Responsible Party (PRP) group.

Textile campus redevelopment: Represented utility and demolition contractor in contract negotiation in connection with the conversion of a 100+ acre vacant textile campus including 50+ buildings in preparation for new use of campus as biotechnical research project.

Off-shore engineering firm: Represented off-shore engineering firm furnishing engineering services to North American clients and projects by human engineering assets located in India and China; coordinated negotiations and preparation of contracts for the furnishing of architectural and engineering services for domestic projects from Asia.

Airports: Represented building and grading contractors in contract negotiation for construction and renovation of airport buildings, runways and approaches, and fuel storage facilities at locations in North Carolina, Virginia, South Carolina, and Florida.

Toll road contract: Drafting parts of a design/build contract for a toll road. The work included preparation of a listing of the liability issues involved and recommendations as to procedures and contract language for handling the liability exposure.

Form subcontracts: Prepared a complete suite of form subcontracts and related forms and agreements for a general building contractor.

Contract documents: Drafted complete integrated program of standardized contract, subcontract, purchase order and project level forms for contractor’s use on any of its projects.

Painting contracts: Prepared standard form contracts and related forms for commercial/residential painting subcontractor.

Utilities contracts: Prepared standard form contracts and related forms for utilities contractor which operates in multiple states.

Utilities contracts: Prepared standard form contracts and related forms for utilities contractor which operates throughout North Carolina and South Carolina.

Contract negotiation: Reviewed and negotiated contracts and subcontracts for general, utility, electrical, mechanical and specialty contractors.

Standard form contract documents: Drafted standard forms of contract documents for the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA). The work involved preparation of agreements between owner and CM, owner and design professional, and owner and contractors. These forms are similar in scope to those utilized by the American Institute of Architects, Associated General Contractors and the Engineers Joint Contract Document Committee.
